Situated just above Pont Creek, on the Polruan side of the river, St Wyllow is a pretty church surrounded by farmland. It is also the church where Daphne du Maurier married Major Frederick 'Tommy' Browning were married. Daphne du Maurier was 19 when she fell in love with Fowey and the magical surrounding landscape, which - even on local road signs - has become known as 'Du Maurier Country'. If that doesn't conjure up a spirit of romanticism for a wedding day then nothing much will. For Rebekah and Wesley there was no problem with making the day special and the military uniforms and guard of honour added to the occasion as the newly-weds then embarked on a ferry trip across the Fowey to their wedding breakfast at Truro, trying, with my help, to recreate that magic moment from 'Titanic' – well, almost!
